Hotels in Zanzibar!
In Stone Town
Zanzibar Serena Inn

Located on the seafront of Zanzibar’s historic Stone Town, Zanzibar Serena Inn has been created by renovating and rehabilitating two romantic and historic buildings. It provides 52 ocean facing, air-conditioned rooms, most with a private balcony. The Inn offers a sea-front restaurant, bar and a spacious, secluded swimming pool.

Tembo Hotel

Tembo Hotel, located at the heart of the Zanzibar town, surrounded by historical buildings at the seafront is designed to offer a delightful appearance of sunset in the Indian Ocean and a true picture of Zanzibar by night. The 19th Century restored Tembo Hotel is ornamented with Oriental and Zanzibar traditional furniture and antiques which are rarely seen in the islands. All 30 rooms are fully air conditioned with hot and cold showers, and telephone facilities. The Hotel has a swimming pool. It is only 15 minutes drive from Zanzibar airport and 5 minutes from the harbor.

Dhow Palace

The 19th Century restored Dhow Palace Hotel, is located in the centre of the Zanzibar Stone Town. The Hotel has 17 self-contained rooms fitted with oriental and Zanzibar furnishings, air conditioning, and telephones. The roof top restaurant serves international and local cuisine.

Chapwani Private Island

Chapwani is a small hotel on a private island surrounded by white sandy beaches only ten minutes away by boat from the capital Stone Town. There are five bandas (thatched bungalows) each with two en-suite rooms, making a total of ten rooms.  Inside you’ll find a large double bed – the traditional Zanzibar four-poster with a mosquito net draped over it – whose plump pillows are adorned with a freshly-plucked hibiscus flower. There’s a small table and chair, a ceiling fan, a picture or two, and not much else. There’s just enough space for a cot or an extra bed. At the back is a bathroom with basin, shelves and an open-plan shower; and a separate toilet.  All in all it’s a simple, practical, comfy beach room. Outside is a wooden terrace with deckchairs, and just beyond that a thatch parasol with your own sun loungers. The sea is so close that at very high tides it practically laps at your terrace.

Chumbe Island Lodge

Chumbe is a small forested island just a few kilometers to the south of Zanzibar Stone town. It is at the center of a small marine conservation area and is the site of a small and exclusive lodge. There are just seven of these fabulously weird constructions, for a maximum of around 14 guests, so the island never feels busy, even when full. The bandas are reasonably well spaced, although could have been farther apart for our liking, but do nonetheless give a real feeling of being out in the wilds. All of the rooms look out towards the sea and it takes just thirty seconds to stroll from the comforts of your hammock to feeling the warm tropical ocean lapping at your feet. We had a slight preference for the last two bandas, which give a greater sense of privacy. Built from palm thatch and other natural materials, these constructions have a light, airy feel. All rooms are equipped with double or twin mattresses on the floor of the mezzanine sleeping area, accessed by a ladder. Beds can be made up as a double or two twins. There are self-contained bathrooms with hot and cold water shower, large living rooms equipped with handmade furniture and decorated with African art and colorful fabrics ... and very comfortable hammocks.
